T2 Metals Corp. (TSXV: TWO) has announced the commencement of surface diamond drilling at its Shanghai Silver-Gold Project in central Yukon, marking the first-ever surface drill program at the property. The approximately 1,500-metre, 10-hole program targets high-priority silver, gold, lead, and zinc mineralisation across three prospects. The milestone represents a significant step forward for the company as it advances exploration in the prolific Tombstone Gold Belt, a region surrounded by multi-million-ounce deposits.
Key Points
- T2 Metals Corp. (TSXV: TWO | OTCQB: TWOSF | FSE: WJ6)
- First-ever surface diamond drill program has commenced at the Shanghai Silver-Gold Project, Mayo Mining District, Yukon
- Program totals approximately 1,500 m in 10 holes targeting three prospects: Shanghai Silver Mine, Shanghai NE, and Bella
- Investors may be watching for assay results from drilling at high-grade Keno Hill-style silver targets and AurMac-style gold targets
Shanghai Project Location and Geological Setting in the Tombstone Gold Belt
The Shanghai Project is situated in the Mayo Mining District within the Tombstone Gold Belt, one of North America's most recognised silver and gold mining regions. The property lies 6 km northwest of Hecla Mining's Keno Hill District, one of the world's highest-grade silver districts, and 6 km north of Banyan Gold's AurMac Project. The Eagle Gold Mine, described as the largest gold mine ever built in the Yukon territory, is located 12 km to the northwest. This proximity to established, large-scale operations underpins the geological rationale for T2 Metals' exploration focus at Shanghai.
Two Mineralisation Styles Targeted Across Three Drill Prospects
The drill program targets two distinct mineralisation styles. The Shanghai Silver Mine and Shanghai NE prospects focus on high-grade Keno Hill-style silver-lead-zinc veins, supported by historical underground sampling that returned 1,182.8 g/t Ag, 8.2% Pb, and 7.2% Zn over 9.1 metres, and historical surface assays of up to 1.1 oz/t Au and 790.5 oz/t Ag. The Bella prospect targets a Reduced Intrusion-Related Gold System analogous to the AurMac deposit, defined by gold and silver anomalous soils over an area of 300 m x 300 m along the projected Robert Service Thrust fault.
2026 Exploration Program Builds on Systematic Yukon Fieldwork
T2 Metals commenced its 2026 exploration program at Shanghai in June, incorporating geological mapping, soil and rock sampling, LiDAR surveying, VLF-EM surveying, and a helicopter-borne aeromagnetic and radiometric survey covering approximately 31 sq km and 425 line-km. Results from this work have been integrated with historical data to refine drill targets. The company holds a Class 3 Permit, meaning Shanghai is fully permitted for drilling, road construction, and camp installation. The company acquired its option to earn a 100% interest in the project from Yukon explorer Shawn Ryan in September 2025.
