Where the Profit Comes From
NVIDIA's second quarter of fiscal 2027 closed on July 26, 2026. Revenue reached USD 96.2 billion, up 106% year over year and 18% from the prior quarter. GAAP net income rose 126% to USD 59.7 billion, while diluted EPS of USD 2.46 compares with USD 1.08 a year ago. Profit outpaced sales because gross margins held firm and operating costs grew slowly. Roughly 62% of each revenue dollar reached net income, by our own calculation from the disclosed numbers. That conversion is rare for a hardware maker. The pricing strength on AI accelerators, which rivals find hard to supply, explains much of it, alongside the software and networking products sold with the chips.
Measuring Net Income Scale
Top-earner screens rank firms by after-tax profit across the last twelve months. Published data show NVDA at USD 120.07 billion on that basis, a figure we have not reconciled to filings and therefore treat as unverified. The filed quarter is the solid reference point: USD 59.7 billion in a single quarter already equals about half that trailing total. The guidance for the next quarter signals further growth, with revenue of USD 108.0 billion, gross margin near 74.0%, and GAAP operating expenses of roughly USD 9.2 billion. These are the company's own projections, not ours.
Risks to Monitor
The outlook leaves out China shipments for the data center unit, so any shift in export rules could push results either way. Relying on a few large customers in cloud and AI computing is an ongoing risk, as is the speed at which those buyers can finance and power new data capacity. The release did not give a date for the next earnings call, so shareholders should watch for an announcement. On screener data the P/E of 25.54 reflects expectations that growth persists, and the stock dropped 1.26% in the latest session. The 74.0% margin forecast will be tested against the next report, since assumptions about margin determine how much of the revenue outlook turns into profit.
Where Things Stand
NVIDIA made USD 59.7 billion in one quarter because Data Center Demand lifted revenue to USD 96.2 billion at very high margins. That puts NVIDIA (NASDAQ:NVDA) among the biggest profit generators in America by any yardstick. The tougher question is staying power: the USD 108.0 billion guidance for the next quarter points to momentum, but it leaves out China and relies on customers continuing to pour money into AI infrastructure.
