Key Highlights
- Galiano Gold sells gold from the Asanko Gold Mine in Ghana, and high bullion prices lift annual sales to about CAD 1.05 million for each employee.
- Contractors outnumber direct staff several times over at the mine, so the ratio rests heavily on how the workforce is counted and on the gold price.
- Waste stripping at Nkran Cut 3, underground drilling at Abore and Ghana's Royalty regime are the main variables for future production and costs.
Company Overview and Business Model
Galiano Gold Inc. (TSX:GAU) is a gold producer whose operating asset is the Asanko Gold Mine in Ghana, in which it holds a 90% interest. The mine draws ore from deposits including Nkran, Abore and Esaase. The shares trade at a current share price of CAD 2.77.
The company reports in U.S. dollars. For fiscal 2025, it produced 121,191 ounces of gold, up 5% from the prior year, and sold 127,134 ounces at an average of US$3,516 per ounce, which created gross Revenue of US$447.8 million. All-in sustaining costs were US$2,233 per ounce.
The year ended with a net loss of US$29.3 million, or US$0.11 per share, while adjusted Net Income was US$58.5 million. Cash stood at US$108.3 million with no debt, and a US$75 million revolving Credit Facility was undrawn. The company has never paid a dividend.
Growth plans center on Nkran Cut 3, where waste stripping is ramping up, and on Abore, where maiden underground resources total 0.8 million ounces. Management guides for 2026 output of 140,000 to 160,000 ounces, roughly 25% above 2025.
Revenue Per Employee: A Key Measure of Operational Efficiency
Revenue per employee tests how much sales a company generates for each person employed. In gold mining, the figure depends on bullion prices and ounces sold, as well as on how much of the work is performed by direct staff rather than contractors.
Based on the financial year ended December 31, 2025, Galiano Gold reported approximately US$447.8 million in gross revenue and about 660 direct employees, comprising 644 at the Asanko Gold Mine and 18 in Canada. The company reports in U.S. dollars.
Revenue Per Employee = Annual Revenue ÷ Total Employees
Using these figures, Galiano Gold generated approximately CAD 1.05 million in annual revenue per employee.
The ratio counts only direct employees. The Asanko Gold Mine also relied on about 2,880 contractors during 2025, so the broader workforce at the site was roughly five times larger than the Payroll count.
Currency conversion, year-end headcount and the gold price also affect the result, and the measure says nothing about any single worker's output.
What Drives the Company's High Revenue Per Employee?
Several features of an open-pit gold operation help explain high sales relative to direct staff.
High-Value Product: Each ounce sold carried an average price of US$3,516 in 2025, so modest tonnage translates into sizeable revenue.
Contracted Mining Services: Heavy equipment fleets and haulage are largely provided by contractors, which keeps the direct payroll small relative to the activity on site.
Process Plant: Ore treatment is concentrated in one plant, which needs relatively few operators for each ounce recovered.
Single Operating Hub: Concentrating production at one mine in Ghana allows administrative and technical roles to serve a single site rather than a dispersed portfolio.
Rising Gold Prices: The average gross price reached US$4,432 per ounce in the second quarter of 2026, lifting revenue even with unchanged ounces.
More revenue per head is not the same as more profit. Royalties, hedging, stripping costs and Capital spending determine how much cash remains.
Risks Investor Needs to Consider
Ghana Fiscal Terms: The second-quarter All-In Sustaining Cost rose to US$2,473 per ounce from US$2,251, mainly because of higher royalties under a new sliding scale, and further tax changes would add pressure.
Hedging Effects: Realized hedge losses cut the net average price to US$3,853 per ounce from US$4,432 in the second quarter, limiting gains from higher bullion prices.
Single-Asset Concentration: A problem at the Asanko Gold Mine, whether operational, weather-related or political, would affect nearly all revenue.
Legal and Cash Restrictions: About US$25.9 million of cash is restricted under a garnishee order, which the company believes was issued in violation of a prior court order.
Development Spending: Nkran Cut 3 stripping, with US$22.1 million capitalized in the second quarter, requires steady execution and funding.
A sudden fall in the gold price would reduce margins quickly given the cost base.
What Does the ESG Investment Case Look Like?
For a mine in West Africa, community relations, safety and tailings oversight are central to the investment case.
Environmental: The Board approved a tailings management policy, and the tailings storage facility receives quarterly reviews, annual audits and annual reviews by an independent panel.
Social: The Asanko workforce was 99.9% Ghanaian, with a total recordable injury rate of 0.48 per million hours. A local employment agreement covers 35 catchment communities, and the company spent US$296.4 million on in-country procurement.
Governance: The Board has eight members, including seven independent non-executive directors and an independent chair. Four committees, including a technical committee overseeing tailings, provide oversight.
Progress will be judged on delivery of these commitments and on transparent emissions reporting, which remains limited.

What Investors Need to Watch Next
Galiano will publish third-quarter 2026 results after the market closes on November 5, 2026, with a conference call on November 6 at 10:30 a.m. Eastern Time.
Shares rose 2.59% in the latest session.
Key points include progress toward weighted second-half output, all-in sustaining costs, royalty developments, the garnishee matter, Abore underground studies and Esaase drilling.
For TSX:GAU, revenue per employee mainly highlights how a high gold price and contractor-based mining combine, while cost control, Cash Flow and reserve growth show the lasting value of the operation.
