Leading Edge Materials Corp. (TSXV: LEM; Nasdaq First North: LEMSE; OTCQB: LEMIF; FRA: 7FL) is a Canadian-listed mineral exploration and development company focused on critical raw material projects located within the European Union. Its portfolio includes the Woxna Graphite Mine and Norra Kärr HREE project in Sweden, and a 51% interest in the Bihor Sud polymetallic exploration joint venture in Romania.
The company reported financial results for the three months ended April 30, 2025, alongside operational updates on its projects in Sweden and Romania.
In the second quarter of fiscal 2025 (Q2FY25), the company posted a net loss of CAD 1.18 million, an increase from the CAD 0.67 million loss in Q1FY25. The rise in loss was mainly attributed to share-based compensation expenses of CAD 585,529 and a foreign exchange loss of CAD 117,063. The comparable loss for Q2 2024 was CAD 859,529.
As of April 30, 2025, Leading Edge reported working capital of approximately CAD 1.19 million and an accumulated deficit of CAD 51.2 million. The company anticipates it has sufficient funds to cover administration and overhead expenses over the next year but will require additional financing to proceed with further development of its key projects: Woxna Graphite and Norra Kärr.
Leading Edge continued to advance its Rapid Development Plan (RDP) for the Norra Kärr Heavy Rare Earth Element (HREE) project. The initiative aims to begin production as soon as possible with a phased approach, including early sales of industrial mineral nepheline syenite and stockpiling of HREE-rich eudialyte concentrate. This phased model is intended to reduce environmental impact and manage capital risk.
In March 2025, Norra Kärr was not included in the European Union’s first list of Strategic Projects under the Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA). The company plans to reapply in future application rounds, citing progress made since its previous submission.
Pre-feasibility study workstreams are ongoing, with testwork completed on nepheline syenite and aegirine. The results are being incorporated into updated economic models to assess potential market demand and pricing. Completion of the revised PFS is expected by Q1 2026.
A new exploitation concession for Norra Kärr is currently under regulatory consultation with Swedish administrative boards and municipalities. The Woxna Graphite mine remains on care and maintenance but in a production-ready state. The company is evaluating the potential to restart operations, including upgrading the processing plant to produce high-quality flake graphite concentrate. Work is underway to update an earlier internal study, with the objective of supporting financing discussions and evaluating potential customer agreements.
Exploration activities at the Bihor Sud project continued during the quarter. The team has expanded underground mapping, diamond drilling, and core sampling programs. The company aims to define a mineable polymetallic resource, with early results focusing on Zinc-Lead-Copper-Silver mineralization in the G2 gallery area.
Recent international developments such as the G7’s Critical Minerals Action Plan and broader European discussions around supply chain resilience have emphasized the strategic importance of materials like graphite and rare earth elements. The company noted increasing recognition of geopolitical competition in securing critical raw materials, aligning with its long-term project focus.
In Sweden, the national government continues to emphasize the country’s role in future mineral supply chains. However, Leading Edge remains dependent on future funding and permitting milestones to advance its projects toward commercial operations.
