Key Highlights
- Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) posted third quarter 2026 Revenue of USD 64.60 billion, a 26.1% rise, along with Net Income of USD 9.86 billion and Diluted Earnings per Share of USD 3.83, compared with USD 1.05 a year before. Those figures are taken from published coverage of the filing.
- Operating income reached USD 12.99 billion after absorbing a USD 9.89 billion legal charge. Without that charge, Operating Income would have been roughly USD 22.9 billion and earnings per share USD 7.40, based on the same coverage.
- Capital spending came to USD 34.9 billion in the quarter, pushing free Cash Flow into negative territory at USD 2.12 billion. The full year 2026 Capital spending outlook sits between USD 135 billion and USD 145 billion.
- Published market data place META at USD 606.73, after a 1.34% decline in the latest session, with trailing net income of USD 60.46 billion and a price to earnings ratio of 20.69. These screener numbers have not been verified.
Solid Revenue, Large Legal Hit
Meta Platforms released third quarter 2026 results covering the period that ended September 30, 2026. The figures below come from published coverage of the quarterly filing, so they are approximate and should be checked against the filing before reuse. Revenue climbed 26.1%, from USD 51.24 billion to USD 64.60 billion. Operating income dropped 36.8% to USD 12.99 billion as a USD 9.89 billion legal charge, which cannot be deducted for tax, weighed on results. Net income of USD 9.86 billion stands against USD 2.71 billion a year earlier, a period depressed by a one-time tax charge of USD 15.93 billion. The comparison is therefore distorted in both directions for Meta (NASDAQ:META).
Looking Past One-Time Items
Net income rankings can conceal timing items on either side. This quarter's legal charge pulled profit down, and a large tax charge did the same to last year's figure. Removing the legal charge, the coverage puts earnings per share near USD 7.40, roughly double the reported USD 3.83, which is our own arithmetic on two published numbers. The trailing net income of USD 60.46 billion from market data is an unverified screener number. Cash tells a different story: Operating Cash Flow reached USD 32.78 billion, yet capital spending of USD 34.9 billion overtook it, so free cash flow was negative. Headcount also fell roughly 15% year over year to 66,775, which helps explain operating costs apart from the legal charge. The coverage also mentions a cut of about 8,000 employees in May 2026, a figure we have not confirmed independently.
Risks and Items to Monitor
Meta narrowed its 2026 capital spending range to USD 135 billion through USD 145 billion, up from an earlier USD 115 billion to USD 135 billion. Heavy outlays on artificial intelligence infrastructure only make sense if Advertising and new products expand quickly enough to cover them. More legal costs could follow. The fourth quarter tax rate guidance is 15% to 17%, below the roughly 24% rate this quarter, since the legal charge cannot be deducted. That lower rate could lift net income compared with operating income. On screener data, META dropped 1.34% in the latest session. The next Quarterly Report is expected in early 2027, though that date has not been confirmed.
Where Things Stand
A USD 9.89 billion legal charge trimmed operating income, but Meta still produced USD 9.86 billion of net income, helped by 26.1% revenue growth and the absence of last year's tax charge. The core Business appears stronger than the headline implies, while cash flow is the worry, since spending exceeded operating cash by USD 2.12 billion. Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) is a very large earner, and the durability of its profit depends on whether its capital spending turns into revenue.
