Fiscal First Quarter Results Beat on Cloud, Cards and Faster Payments
Jack Henry & Associates (NASDAQ:JKHY) published fiscal first quarter 2027 results on November 3, 2026, covering the three months ended September 30. GAAP revenue increased to USD 701.5 million from USD 644.7 million, and Net Income rose 11.4% to USD 160.4 million. Processing revenue advanced 10.7% to USD 296.6 million, powered by card revenue up 9.4%, digital and transaction revenue up 13.3% and faster payments revenue up 43.8%. Services and support revenue grew 7.5% to USD 405.0 million, with hosting up 11.7%. The company said the quarter came in ahead of the outlook it had provided in August.
Separating Deconversion Revenue and Acquisition Effects From Organic Growth
The gap between GAAP and non-GAAP figures matters here. Adjusted revenue rose 7.2% and adjusted operating income 11.2%, because the non-GAAP view strips out deconversion revenue, which comes from clients leaving the platform and carries one-time fees, adding USD 9.3 million in the quarter, plus the effect of the Victor Technologies acquisition from the prior year. Adjusted operating margin reached 28.2%, and return on invested Capital was 23.2%, according to the CFO. The Connect conference took place in the first quarter last year but in the second quarter this year, which left selling, general and administrative expense roughly flat at a 0.2% decline. That timing flattered the margin comparison and could reverse next quarter. Research and Development climbed 16.6% on headcount, while cloud, artificial intelligence and security costs pushed up cost of revenue.
Fiscal 2027 Guidance, Share Buybacks and Balance Sheet Strain
For fiscal 2027 the company projects GAAP revenue of USD 2.698 to USD 2.718 billion, a GAAP operating margin of 24.7% to 24.9% and GAAP EPS of USD 7.47 to USD 7.51, assuming no acquisitions or dispositions. Adjusted revenue is expected at USD 2.667 to USD 2.687 billion. Cash slipped to USD 25.4 million from USD 36.2 million a year earlier, while borrowings grew to USD 85 million, partly to fund USD 71 million of repurchases. Risks include higher personnel and cloud costs, uneven timing of deconversions and reliance on bank and Credit union clients whose technology budgets could tighten. The filing extract did not include prior guidance, so the change since August cannot be quantified here.
Where Things Stand
Healthy operating growth, a wider operating margin and a lower tax rate of 23.8% produced the 15.6% EPS gain, although part of the GAAP revenue increase came from deconversion revenue and the acquisition. Adjusted revenue growth of 7.2% gives the more conservative gauge of underlying demand. For Jack Henry & Associates (NASDAQ:JKHY), the balance is healthy growth alongside higher costs and a more leveraged balance sheet than a year earlier. Next checkpoints are second-quarter expense timing and whether fiscal 2027 guidance holds.
