Canada Market Round-Up

The S&P/TSX Composite Index ended last week on a softer note, declining 0.30% to close at 30,260.74. However, on November 3, the benchmark extended its near-term bullish momentum, advancing 14.32 points (+0.05%) in a session marked by broad-based gains. Strength was most evident across the basic materials, consumer cyclicals, consumer non-cyclicals, utilities, and financial sectors, while energy, industrials, healthcare, real estate, and technology lagged, modestly limiting overall upside. From a technical perspective, the index maintains a firm bullish structure, trading comfortably above its rising trendline support and the 21-period Simple Moving Average (SMA), both of which continue to underpin the prevailing uptrend. Immediate resistance is seen near 30,800, and a decisive breakout above this level could pave the way for further upward momentum. On the downside, initial support rests around 29,600, with a sustained move below this threshold likely to trigger a short-term corrective pullback. The weekly Relative Strength Index (RSI) stands at 74.68, highlighting robust and persistent buying momentum. While this supports a constructive medium-term outlook, it also places the index in overbought territory, suggesting the potential for near-term consolidation or profit-taking before the next advance.

On the macro front, the upcoming major economic events that may impact the Canadian market sentiment include CA Employment Change, US Non-Farm Employment Change and US Unemployment Rate.

Global Markets Wrap-Up

U.S. equity markets delivered solid gains during the week ending October 31, 2025, with major benchmarks closing broadly higher. The Nasdaq Composite led the advance, rising 2.24% to finish at 23,724.96, reflecting renewed investor appetite for growth-oriented stocks. In contrast, the Russell 2000 slipped 1.36% to 2,479.38, indicating relative weakness among small-cap equities despite the broader market’s strength. On the macroeconomic front, data from the U.S. Department of Labor showed that initial jobless claims declined by 14,000 to a seasonally adjusted 218,000 for the week ending September 20, 2025, compared with the prior week’s revised level of 232,000.

Taking into the US market's performance over the last week, following the major global macros and data front, based on the technical analysis of the S&P/TSX Composite Index, the one TSX listed stock fit the maximum criteria on the technical framework. The recommendations are based on the generic insights, entry price, target prices, and stop-loss for Birchcliff Energy Ltd. (TSX: BIR) for the next 2-4 weeks.

Birchcliff Energy Ltd. (TSX: BIR)

Price Action Analysis (On the Daily Chart)

On the daily chart, BIR continues to trade above a rising trendline support, underscoring sustained buying interest at current levels. The recent rebound, accompanied by a noticeable uptick in trading volumes, highlights strengthening bullish momentum and increasing investor participation. If this positive sentiment persists over the next 2–4 weeks, the stock appears well-positioned to retest immediate resistance near CAD 7.35. A decisive breakout above CAD 7.90 would confirm a continuation of the broader uptrend, potentially opening the door to additional upside in the near term.

Technical Analysis (On the Daily Chart)

On the daily chart, the 14-period Relative Strength Index (RSI) is currently at 66.11, reflecting steady positive momentum and suggesting room for renewed upside should buying interest continue to build. Consistently firm weekly trading volumes further validate this view, underscoring sustained investor participation and healthy market activity. Moreover, the stock continues to trade above its 21-period Simple Moving Average (SMA), which acts as dynamic support and reinforces the prevailing bullish outlook.
