Canada Market Round-Up

The S&P/TSX Composite Index ended the previous week on a weak note, declining 3.66% to close at 33,083.72 and extending its cautious tone into March 06, 2026. Sector performance was mixed across the market. Strength was visible in technology, basic materials, consumer non-cyclicals, industrials, energy, and utilities, reflecting improving investor risk appetite across both cyclical and defensive segments. However, weakness in healthcare, financials, consumer cyclicals, and real estate sectors limited the broader market recovery and capped overall gains. From a technical standpoint, the index continues to maintain a constructive medium-term outlook. Prices remain comfortably above a rising trendline support and the 21-period Simple Moving Average (SMA), which reinforces the prevailing bullish structure and suggests sustained buying interest during market pullbacks. Immediate resistance is placed near the 32,400 level, where a decisive breakout could open the door for further upside momentum. Meanwhile, strong support is located around 33,800. A sustained move below this level may trigger a short-term corrective phase. The weekly Relative Strength Index (RSI), currently at 63.58, continues to indicate healthy bullish momentum in the broader trend.

On the macro front, the upcoming major economic events that may impact the Canadian market sentiment include CA CPI m/m, US Prelim GDP q/q and US Unemployment Claims.
