Canada Market Round-Up

The S&P/TSX Composite Index ended the week of April 24, 2026, on a weaker note, declining 442.18 points, or 1.29%, to settle at 33,904.11. Gains were broadly supported by strength across healthcare, and energy sectors, while weakness in consumer cyclicals, consumer non- cyclicals, basic materials, technology, real estate, industrials, financials, and utilities limited the overall upside. Despite the pullback, the technical outlook remains constructive. The index continues to trade above its rising trendline support and the 21-period Simple Moving Average (SMA), reinforcing the prevailing uptrend. Immediate resistance is placed near 34,500; a sustained breakout above this level could drive further upside momentum. On the downside, initial support is seen around 33,200. The weekly RSI at 61.11 indicates healthy bullish momentum with room for additional gains.

On the macro front, the upcoming major economic events that may impact the Canadian market sentiment include CA BOC Rate Statement, US Advance GDP q/q and US Unemployment Claims.
