Global Markets Wrap-Up

U.S. equity markets ended the week on a mixed note, with major indices delivering varied performances. The S&P 500 slipped 0.08% to close at 7,543.64, as weakness in several key sectors weighed on overall market sentiment. Meanwhile, the technology-heavy NASDAQ Composite outperformed, gaining 1.45% to finish at 26,206.89, supported by continued strength in large-cap technology stocks. In contrast, the Russell 2000 underperformed its peers, declining 0.12% to close at 2,992.54, reflecting relatively weaker performance among small-cap stocks.

In Canada, the S&P/TSX Venture Composite Index declined 4.26% on a week-to-date basis to close at 898.34, reflecting a moderation in near-term market momentum. Strength in the basic materials, consumer non-cyclicals, and industrials sectors provided partial support, highlighting selective investor interest in defensive and economically resilient areas of the market. However, persistent weakness in the technology, financials, and energy sectors weighed on overall index performance, limiting broader market participation. The mixed sector performance suggests that, while the broader market structure remains relatively constructive, investor sentiment has turned more cautious. Market participants appear to be awaiting stronger and more sustained buying interest before adopting a more aggressive risk-on approach.
