Global Markets Wrap-Up

U.S. equity markets ended the week on a positive note, with the major benchmark indices posting gains, reflecting improved investor sentiment. The S&P 500 Index gained 1.02% to close at 7,730.99, while the Nasdaq Composite advanced 1.38% to finish at 26,541.35. Meanwhile, the Russell 2000 Index edged higher by 0.28%, closing at 3,014.34.

In Canada, the S&P/TSX Venture Composite Index gained 1.59% on a week-to-date basis to close at 1,004.09, reflecting improving short-term momentum and renewed investor participation. The advance was primarily supported by strength across the basic materials, financials, technology, consumer non-cyclicals, and energy sectors, signalling increased buying interest across selected areas of the market. However, weakness in the industrials sector limited broader market participation and capped the overall upside. The mixed sector performance suggests that, while the broader market structure remains constructive, investors continue to adopt a selective approach amid persistent macroeconomic uncertainties, evolving economic expectations, and changing market dynamics.
