Gamma Communications PLC

Gamma Communications PLC (LSE: GAMA), is an FTSE AIM UK 50 Index quoted technology-based provider of communication services in Western Europe. GAMA is a leading provider in the UK, Spanish, German, and Dutch business markets.

Key Recommendation Rationale - Sell at GBX 944.80

  • UK Gross Profit Contraction & Margin Erosion: Gamma Business’s gross profit declined 2% to £190.8m, with UK SME gross profit down 3%. Gross margin contracted 190bps to 50.9%. The PSTN switch-off headwind reduced gross profit by c.£4m, and this pressure is expected to continue through FY2026, impacting recurring revenue quality.
  • Enterprise Pricing Pressure & Margin Squeeze: Gamma Enterprise gross profit was flat at £60.3m, as competitive ethernet pricing pressure reduced gross profit by c.£2m. Management expects a further c.£3m headwind in FY2026. Gross margin fell 140bps to 46.2%, indicating weakening pricing power in a crowded fibre connectivity market.
  • High Operating Expense Drag from Germany: While Gamma Germany gross profit surged 197% to £78.4m, operating expenses (excluding R&D, D&A) soared 186% to £55.5m. Adjusted EBITDA grew slower than gross profit, as acquired entities (Starface, Placetel) carry structurally higher opex, pressuring incremental margin conversion from German expansion
  • Profit Before Tax Declined Despite Revenue Growth: Reported PBT fell 8% to £87.7m, even as revenue grew 11%. This was due to a £10.6m exceptional items charge (acquisition, listing, restructuring costs) and a £5.2m rise in amortisation from business combinations. Underlying earnings quality is obscured by non-cash and one-off charges.

Valuation Methodology: Price/ Earnings Approach

Share Price Chart

Conclusion

Despite top-line growth, Gamma faces margin erosion in UK SME and Enterprise, rising German opex, weaker cash conversion, and a swing to net debt. Reported PBT declined due to exceptional charges. While German expansion adds scale, near-term profitability and recurring revenue quality are under pressure from structural headwinds and integration costs.

Gamma Communications PLC appears overvalued. For conducting the valuation, the following peers have been considered: Dotdigital Group PLC (LSE:DOTD), Telefonica SA (LSE:OTDE), etc

Given its current trading levels, the recent strategic investments and partnerships, relative valuation, and associated risks, it is prudent to exit the stock at the current levels.

Hence, a ‘Sell’ recommendation is given on the stock at the Current Market Price of GBX 944.80 as of 23 April 2026, at 08:15 AM GMT+1.
