The VanEck Oil Refiners ETF (NYSE Arca: CRAK) seeks investment results that correspond generally to the price and yield performance, before fees and expenses, of the MVIS® Global Oil Refiners Index. The fund is engineered to provide investors and traders with targeted exposure to the global downstream energy segment, specifically companies involved in crude oil refining.

The oil refining industry occupies a unique position within the energy complex, operating between upstream crude extraction and end-consumer demand for refined petroleum products. Consequently, refiners are sensitive to crack spreads (the margin between crude oil input costs and refined output prices), refinery utilization rates, inventory cycles, regional energy policies, environmental mandates, and broader industrial demand.

The VanEck Oil Refiners ETF (CRAK) provides pure-play exposure to global refining equities. Unlike broad energy funds heavily weighted toward upstream exploration and production (E&P) or integrated supermajors, CRAK isolates companies that derive at least 50% of their revenues from crude oil refining. When refined product margins expand due to structural supply deficits or elevated consumer fuel demand, refiners can generate substantial operating cash flows even during periods of volatile crude benchmarks. Conversely, when input crude prices rise faster than refined product prices or global demand softens, refining margins compress.
