Sage Potash Corp. (TSXV: SAGE) (OTCQB: SGPTF) has announced a materially upgraded Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) for its flagship Sage Plain Potash Project in Utah's Paradox Basin, following the completion of its Summer 2026 drill program. The updated estimate, prepared by independent engineering firm RESPEC LLC, introduces measured and indicated resource categories for the first time while expanding the inferred resource significantly. The upgrade represents a 259% increase in total tonnage compared to the prior estimate, a development that investors in the domestic potash sector may find noteworthy.
Key Points
- Sage Potash Corp. (TSXV: SAGE) (OTCQB: SGPTF) operates the Sage Plain Potash Project in Utah's Paradox Basin
- Updated MRE delivers 226.1 million tonnes measured and indicated, plus 545.4 million tonnes inferred, representing a 259% tonnage increase over the prior estimate
- Measured resource grades 41.31% KCl (Upper 18) and 42.27% KCl (Lower 18); inferred resource grades 41.17% KCl (Upper 18) and 42.11% KCl (Lower 18)
- The company plans to advance a Pre-Feasibility Study and publish a NI 43-101 Technical Report within 45 days of this announcement
Summer 2026 Peterson 1 Well Drilling Drives Resource Category Expansion at Sage Plain
The Summer 2026 drilling of the Peterson 1 Well at the Sage Plain Potash Project delivered high-grade, thick intervals across both the Upper and Lower Cycle 18 potash beds. According to the release, the new data confirmed consistent lateral continuity of potash horizons, which enabled RESPEC LLC to assign measured and indicated classifications for the first time. The measured resource totals 54.3 million tonnes, the indicated resource totals 171.8 million tonnes, and the inferred resource totals 545.4 million tonnes, bringing the aggregate in-place sylvinite tonnage to 771.5 million tonnes across all categories.
How the 2026 MRE Compares to the Prior Sage Plain Resource Estimate
The updated estimate represents a 259% increase in total tonnage relative to the prior Preliminary Economic Assessment Technical Report, which carried an effective date of September 8, 2025. The earlier estimate included only inferred resources, with the Upper 18 bed at 169.9 million tonnes and the Lower 18 bed at 128.2 million tonnes. The 2026 update adds entirely new measured and indicated categories while also materially growing the inferred resource from 298.1 million tonnes to 545.4 million tonnes, reflecting the expanded geological understanding gained from additional drilling data.
Pre-Feasibility Study and Solution-Mining Engineering Outlined as Priorities
The company states that its next core objective is completing a Pre-Feasibility Study to demonstrate the financial viability and economic metrics of the Sage Plain Potash Project. Planned workstreams disclosed in the release include advancement of solution-mining engineering and process design, determination of throughput capacity, continued environmental study and permitting activities for the new design, collaboration with regional stakeholders, and trade-off studies covering power, water, and transportation logistics to the Sage Plain site.
