Key Highlights
- Among seven partners, the largest named compute commitment, USD 161.2B, belongs to Broadcom (NASDAQ:AVGO), according to the S-1 chart data; the named total is USD 637.0B and SpaceXAI follows at USD 120.5B.
- A market commentator says a chip Lease to Anthropic is backed by Broadcom (NASDAQ:AVGO) to the tune of about USD 30 billion if payments halt; Apollo and Blackstone funded the lease vehicle with roughly USD 35 billion of debt.
- In that commentary Broadcom is also building 10 gigawatts of custom chips for OpenAI, so a single chip designer sits behind two labs whose funding depends on investors.
- Calling USD 161 billion a press-reported number drawn from accounts of the draft prospectus, the commentator adds that the S-1 leaves its own aggregate commitment blank, so totals differ depending on where they originate.
What the Filings Show
The S-1, which Anthropic filed with the SEC on October 26, 2026, has since been charted with named compute commitments split out by partner. In the S-1 chart data, Broadcom (NASDAQ:AVGO) stands at USD 161.2B, ahead of SpaceXAI at USD 120.5B, Google Cloud at USD 114.5B, Amazon at USD 110.0B and Microsoft at USD 44.9B. Adding up the named partners gives USD 637.0B, while the S-1 leaves its own aggregate blank, the chart source says. On the same date, a market commentator offered another set of numbers: about USD 450 billion of non-cancellable contracts, with the USD 161 billion tied to Broadcom described as press-reported. We do not merge the two sets, and the companies have confirmed neither.
How The Exposure Works
Broadcom designs Google's AI chips, the commentator explains. In June, reportedly, a vehicle with Apollo and Blackstone behind it took on about USD 35 billion of Debt to buy about a gigawatt of Google TPU chips and lease them to Anthropic. About USD 30 billion would be covered by Broadcom should Anthropic stop paying the lease, which leaves a chip designer holding part of a lab's Credit risk. These chips never belong to Anthropic, and its lease payments are the bondholders' income. He adds that Broadcom is building 10 gigawatts of custom chips for OpenAI. Gigawatts measure power capacity, a rough proxy for the computing a data centre can run.
Risks And Watch Points
The thesis he offers is that a drop in the price per token, meaning what is charged for each chunk of text a model handles, could leave labs short of cash against fixed computing bills, with the effect flowing back to suppliers. This is a single opinion, and a lease backstop only applies if payments stop. Secondary reporting of S-1 pages is where the Broadcom figure comes from, according to the S-1 chart source, which expects the final prospectus to confirm or correct the numbers. Investors may follow the final prospectus, the pricing of the Anthropic listing and any second lease package, for which the commentator says talks began in August. This article offers no view on the stock.
Where Things Stand
Broadcom (NASDAQ:AVGO) is central to the AI chip chain: it designs chips for Google and OpenAI, and Anthropic leases them. USD 161.2B of named commitments with the company appear in the S-1 chart data, and a market commentator says it backs about USD 30 billion of a lease. Reported by different source types, the figures do not match one another exactly. Open questions include whether the final prospectus confirms the numbers and whether lab Revenue keeps up with fixed computing bills.
