Texas Dry Spell and a Trimmed Revenue Range Weigh on the Stock

Shares of NPK International (NYSE:NPKI) are down 15.98% today after the company released third-quarter results on October 29 and cut its full-year guidance. Management attributed the weaker outlook to exceptionally dry Texas weather, which dampened matting Demand during the third quarter and in the early part of the fourth.

The revised 2026 revenue range of $300 million to $305 million falls beneath the earlier $313 million to $323 million band, so the new floor sits below the old one.

What makes the reduction notable is that the quarter itself grew. Investors appear to be reacting to the forward picture, which points to a softer fourth quarter than the earlier range had envisioned.

NPK is a worksite access solutions provider headquartered in The Woodlands, Texas. Recyclable composite matting is manufactured, sold and rented out by NPK, which also supplies planning, logistics and site restoration work to customers in electrical transmission and distribution, oil and gas, pipeline, renewable and construction markets.

Rental and Service Gains Lift Revenue While Operating Margin Edges Lower

Third-quarter revenue climbed 11% to $76.3 million. Rental revenue rose roughly 8% to $31.8 million, service revenue advanced about 21% to $17.7 million, and product sales grew around 9% to $26.7 million.

Adjusted EBITDA from continuing operations reached $20.0 million, up 30% from $15.4 million, which pushed the margin to 26.2% from 22.3%. Operating Income held roughly steady at $9.2 million, while Operating Margin dipped to 12.0% from 13.2%.

Adjusted income from continuing operations came to $7.9 million, or $0.09 per diluted share, versus $6.1 million, or $0.07, a year before. Net Income was $6.1 million.

Gross margin slipped to 31.3% from 31.9%, though combined rental and service revenue of $49.6 million jumped 12%, a sign that the recurring portion of the Business kept growing.

Capital Spending Plans, Negative Free Cash Flow and Share Repurchases

Spending plans for the year cover $70 million to $75 million of Capital expenditure, including $40 million to $45 million for rental equipment and roughly $20 million for expanding manufacturing. Free cash flow in the third quarter was negative $4.4 million against $7.1 million of operating cash flow, signaling continued Investment even as the revenue range comes down.

NPK finished September with $4.2 million in cash and $26.3 million in total debt, and $132.2 million remained available under its revolving Credit facility. During the quarter it bought back about 1.0 million shares for $13.4 million, leaving $76 million on its authorization.

Third-quarter costs included roughly $1.2 million of severance and $0.7 million tied to strategic planning and diligence work.
