- Anaergia has amended its contract with Techbau to include two additional biomethane plants, bringing the total to seven.
- The facilities will process agricultural and food waste to supply renewable gas to Italy’s grid by mid-2026.
- The revised deal is expected to increase Anaergia’s total project revenues with Techbau to over CAD 36 million.
Anaergia Inc. (TSX:ANRG) is a Canada-based renewable energy technology company that specialises in converting organic waste into renewable natural gas, fertiliser, and reusable water. Through its proprietary technologies and project delivery capabilities, the company develops and supports infrastructure that processes organic material from solid waste, wastewater, and agricultural sources. Anaergia operates projects globally, including facilities it owns or co-manages with partners, and has more than 250 patents related to resource recovery technologies.
The company has signed an amended agreement with engineering and construction firm Techbau S.p.A. to deliver equipment for two additional biomethane production plants in Italy. This expansion builds on a previous contract announced in April 2025, bringing the total number of facilities Anaergia is supplying for Techbau to seven.
Under the revised agreement, Anaergia will provide key equipment for the biomethane production process, while Techbau will manage engineering, procurement, and construction. The plants are to be located across Southern Italy and are expected to be completed and operational by mid-2026. The facilities will use Anaergia’s anaerobic digestion technology to convert agricultural and food processing waste into renewable biomethane for injection into the national gas pipeline.
The additional facilities are expected to contribute approximately CAD 9.2 million in revenue to Anaergia, increasing the total anticipated revenue from all seven projects to over CAD 36 million. These projects support Italy’s national objectives for renewable energy generation and greenhouse gas emissions reduction.
According to the companies, the anaerobic digestion technology deployed at the facilities is designed to handle a variety of organic waste streams while maximising biomethane output. The resulting renewable natural gas (RNG) is intended to reduce dependency on fossil fuels and lower the carbon intensity of Italy’s energy system.
Construction and commissioning work will be carried out by Techbau, a privately-held company known for large-scale infrastructure and industrial projects. The firm has previously managed projects in energy, transportation, and manufacturing sectors and will serve as the general contractor for all seven facilities.
Anaergia CEO Assaf Onn noted the development marks further progress in the companies’ ongoing relationship. “This agreement reflects a mutual alignment on project execution and expansion,” he stated. The biomethane facilities are designed to be integrated into Italy’s existing gas infrastructure and are expected to help meet the country’s renewable energy targets under both national and European Union frameworks. Italy has committed to increasing the share of renewable gas in its overall energy mix as part of broader decarbonisation and circular economy initiatives.
