Subscriptions Carry the Top Line as Ads Lag Behind
Snap (NYSE:SNAP) published third quarter 2026 figures on November 4, 2026. Sales landed inside the earlier guidance band of USD 1.70 billion to USD 1.74 billion. The Snapchat operator said Advertising revenue rose 4%, whereas other revenue climbed 84% on the strength of Snapchat+, Memories Storage and Lens+. Daily active users reached 495 million, and monthly actives hit 977 million. Average daily messages rose 8%, and people engaged in two-way messaging grew 6%. From first quarter 2027 results onward, monthly active users will serve as the primary audience metric, displacing daily active users and regional figures.
From a USD 104 Million Loss to a USD 56 Million Profit
Operating income landed at USD 76.7 million, versus a USD 128.4 million loss, as cost of revenue declined to USD 649 million from USD 674 million and gross Margin came in at 62%. Research and Development climbed to USD 478 million and sales and Marketing to USD 298 million, while general and administrative costs fell to USD 221 million. Interest expense totaled USD 37.3 million. The nine-month net loss remained at USD 196.4 million, inclusive of USD 128.5 million of restructuring charges excluded from adjusted EBITDA, which means the quarterly gain is not a year-to-date profit. Adjusted EBITDA margin computes to about 22%.
Q4 Guidance, Cash Position and the SPECS Investment
Cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities approached USD 2.77 billion, rising about USD 111 million since the end of the second quarter. Full-year infrastructure costs are now pegged at USD 1.65 billion to USD 1.66 billion, versus a prior USD 1.65 billion to USD 1.70 billion. There were 1,718 million common shares outstanding, and counting shares tied to stock awards the total was 1,932 million, against 1,861 million a year before. Management intends to finish the current buyback in the fourth quarter and then adopt a multi-year plan to offset dilution. Guidance factors in planned spending on SPECS, the Augmented Reality product. Snap (NYSE:SNAP) flagged slow ad growth, competition, heavy interest costs and the pace of SPECS spending as risks.
Where Things Stand
Subscriptions, not advertising, carried the quarter, so sustaining the profit depends on ad revenue picking up. Snap (NYSE:SNAP) grew revenue 14% but ads only 4%, and total costs rose about 1%. Fourth quarter guidance of USD 1.950 billion to USD 1.985 billion implies further growth, yet the nine-month result is still a net loss. Watch ad growth, subscriber additions, dilution from stock awards and SPECS spending. The release did not include a stock price reaction.
