  • Joint venture mining infrastructure upgrade spans four years with significant site preparation work

Bird Construction Inc. (TSX: BDT) has been awarded three major contracts with a combined value exceeding $525 million, spanning transportation, senior housing, and mining infrastructure. The projects reinforce Bird’s activity across various sectors within Canada’s construction industry.

One of the most significant awards is the Transportation Safety and Technology Science (TSTS) Hub in Ottawa, a 120,000 sq. ft. facility intended to consolidate five existing federal laboratories. The facility will house over 260 staff members from the National Research Council and Transportation Safety Board, supporting research in air, marine, rail, and pipeline safety.

In Edmonton, Bird will undertake the Beverly Heights Seniors Housing project, a mixed-use senior care facility offering independent living, assisted living, and long-term care services. The development is aligned with demographic trends and aims to meet increasing demand for multi-level care options.

Additionally, Bird, as part of a joint venture, has been selected for a four-year mining infrastructure upgrade project with an existing client. The scope includes clearing, preparing foundations, placing more than two million cubic meters of fill, installing HDPE geomembrane, and implementing environmental monitoring systems. This contract highlights Bird’s continued role in resource sector infrastructure development.

The company indicated that these projects represent activity in strategic sectors despite economic headwinds and reflect ongoing client demand for experienced construction partners.

The new contracts will contribute to Bird’s construction backlog and may impact future financial reporting depending on the execution timeline of each project. Investors will likely monitor project milestones and cost performance indicators as part of Bird’s broader earnings outlook.
