Global metals posted a mixed performance last week, with precious and base metals moving higher overall. Gold advanced 7.13%, silver rose 9.92%, copper gained 2.02%, lead increased 0.41%, and zinc advanced 1.76%. Market sentiment was influenced by a weaker U.S. jobs report, which reduced expectations of an immediate Federal Reserve rate hike and supported precious metals. Attention now shifts to U.S. inflation data, with CPI due Wednesday and PPI on Thursday, while retail sales are scheduled for Friday.
Natural gas declined 2.63% last week, while Light Sweet Crude Oil fell 2.35%, although energy markets remained sensitive to developments around the Strait of Hormuz. Uncertainty over the reopening of the key shipping route and renewed regional tensions have kept supply concerns elevated. In agricultural commodities, soybean declined 0.95% and corn fell 0.43%, while US Sugar No. 11 gained 12.21%. Markets are now closely watching U.S. CPI, PPI and core retail sales, alongside U.S.-Iran developments, Hormuz shipping activity, OPEC+ supply policy, weather conditions and global crop demand for further direction across energy and agricultural markets.
